From childhood we go to adulthood. That is the natural dynamic of life. And those habits that we forged as children will support us to build a healthier and more successful life in the future.

With this, we could summarize the importance of children and teenagers practicing sports, however, in this blog we are going to go a little deeper and explain why physical education is also a key part of the BMS curriculum.

Reasons why children should be physically active

  1. Physical health. The WHO warns that 80% of children and adolescents worldwide do not exercise enough daily, which may put their health at risk. Exercise helps prevent heart disease and diabetes; control an appropriate weight for their build, age and size; strengthen bones and muscles, among others.
  2. Mental health. It has been proven that practicing physical activity helps process emotions, improves mood, and fights depression, anxiety and stress, allowing them to focus better on their learning process.
  3. Recreation. Another advantage of practicing sports is that it is an excuse to make new friends, socialize and recreate. In addition, currently, most children only spend their time glued to screens and video games, so a sedentary lifestyle is on the agenda of the day. Practicing sports is playing, but obtaining physical benefits that promote the well-being of the little ones in the house.

But, what type of daily exercise should children and adolescents do? Each person is a universe. But the important thing is that children enjoy physical activity and get some exercise every day. It can be something as simple as playing soccer or basketball, running, riding a bike.

Hence, it is essential to listen to our children and attend to their tastes and needs. What do you enjoy doing and why? What makes you happy? What motivated you?

Additionally, if a child practices sports on a permanent basis, they can learn about:

  • Discipline and commitment.
  • Creation of good habits.
  • Responsibility and respect.
  • Teamwork.

All of this will prepare the kid to face life’s challenges in a resilient and conscious way, as well as, understand the value of effort behind our goals and objectives.
